Sunshine, Sandcastles & Smiles: Our Family Adventure in Majorca!

If you’re dreaming of sunshine, stunning views, and a whole lot of family fun, Majorca ticks all the boxes! Our recent holiday to this Mediterranean marvel was packed with beachy bliss, exciting day trips, and magical moments we’ll be talking about for years.

We based ourselves just outside Palma, up in the peaceful hills — and let me tell you, it was like something from a postcard. Our villa was surrounded by lemon and orange groves, and the air smelled like citrus and sunshine. It was the perfect place to wake up slowly, sip coffee on the terrace, and listen to birds instead of alarms. Bliss!

✈️ Smooth Travels: Palma Airport Perfection

Let’s start with how easy it was to get there. Palma de Mallorca Airport (PMI) is one of the most convenient airports we’ve ever flown into. Just a short 15–20 minute drive from the city centre, it made arriving and getting to our villa an absolute breeze — no long transfers or endless car rides with grumpy kids in tow!

The airport itself was bright, clean, and easy to navigate, with plenty of signs in English and helpful staff. Our bags came out quickly, the car rental process was straightforward, and within no time we were driving past palm trees with huge smiles on our faces. It was the perfect stress-free start to our holiday.

🚲 Biking in Beautiful Palma (and Sweet Treats!)

Being so close to Palma, we made the most of it! One sunny afternoon, we hired bikes and pedalled our way along the city’s gorgeous seafront promenade (do check out Call and Ride for super easy and friendly bike hire in the City). It’s super flat and family-friendly, with views of the Palma Cathedral and sparkling boats all along the marina. The kids were thrilled to have wheels, and we stopped plenty of times for cold drinks, and cheesy family selfies.

But the real treat? Ensaïmada! After a delicious dinner at El Camino, a charming tapas bar that offered a true taste of Spain), we popped into a local bakery (Ca’n Joan de s’Aigo) and couldn’t resist the cloud-like, spiral-shaped pastries dusted in powdered sugar. These traditional Majorcan delights are light, fluffy, and just the right amount of sweet — perfect with a coffee (or hot chocolate).

On our second trip into Palma, we decided to mix a little adventure with some relaxation. First up was a stop for yet more Ensaïmada (this time at Ca Na Cati, near the Cathedral) before a walk down to a cool play park down near the beach.

The kids absolutely loved running around on the swings, climbing structures, and zip lines, all while we enjoyed the sea breeze. The park’s location right near the water made it the perfect spot for a family pit stop.

After a little playtime, we treated ourselves to some delicious ice cream from Iceberg Gelats Mallorca. We found the perfect spot to enjoy it — sitting on the walls overlooking the sea, with the waves gently lapping at the shore. It was one of those moments where you just sit back, soak it all in, and feel so incredibly lucky.

🌊 Paradise Found: Es Trenc & the Salt Hills

One of our most magical beach days was at Es Trenc, a long stretch of powdery white sand and clear, turquoise water that feels almost too beautiful to be real. The beach has a laid-back, natural vibe and shallow waves perfect for little paddlers. It’s worth noting that there are no toilets at the beach but there is plenty of paid for parking. We didn’t brave the waters but built sandcastles, flew our kits and collected tiny shells while the sun beamed down from a cloudless sky.

Just behind the beach lies something truly unique — the famous Flor de Sal d’Es Trenc Natural salt flats. The salt is still hand-harvested here, and the sight of the sparkling white salt hills against the blue sky was just incredible. We didn’t bother with the tour (but there is one!) but just stopped by for a quick look and a cheeky photo opportunity!

Dinner at Cassai Beach House was an unforgettable experience. Perched above the turquoise waters of the Mediterranean, the restaurant offers breath-taking views of the island of Cabrera, especially as the sun sets over the horizon. We enjoyed a delicious meal on the sunlit terrace, making it a perfect spot for a memorable evening

🚋 Sóller & the Wooden Tram

One of the kids’ favourite days was our trip to Sóller. We rode the old-fashioned wooden tram through lush valleys and orange groves — it felt like a fairytale on rails! They loved waving at people (well the pre-teen was less keen!) along the route and pretending they were driving the tram. We ended up at the Port of Sóller for a little seaside stroll and another very dreamy ice cream (this time from IO Gelats in Port Sóller – a total parenting win by the way – who knew that mango and cava ice cream was so good!).

🕯️ The Magical Cuevas del Drach

Adventure time! We headed over to the Cuevas del Drach, and wow — what a hidden wonder. The caves were full of glittering stalactites, underground lakes, and echoing chambers. But the best bit? A surprise classical concert on boats, floating across a still, silent lake inside the cave. It was spine-tingling and totally magical. Afterward, we made our way to Porto Cristo for dinner, where we enjoyed fresh fish with a view of the harbour. The perfect end to another day in sunny Majorca!

🏞 A Dreamy Day in Deià

And we absolutely had to explore the northwest coast, where we discovered Deià — the prettiest little village you’ve ever seen. Stone houses, flower-draped balconies, winding paths, and views that stretch from the mountains to the sea. We braved the winding, cliffside road down to the legendary Ca’s Patro March — a restaurant perched right above the crystal-clear waters. The drive was thrilling, with hairpin turns that made your heart race, but the reward was well worth it. Sitting by the sea, with the sound of waves crashing and the taste of fresh seafood, it was pure magic.

🏡 Slower Moments & Family Time

Of course, some of the best memories were made right at our villa. We had plenty of pool time, even if the water was a bit chilly (nothing a brave splash and some shrieking couldn’t fix!). The kids turned into mermaids, pirates, and cannonball champions, while we lounged poolside with books in hand and sunshine on our faces.

In the evenings, we slowed things down even more — playing cards, reading stories, and enjoying that precious kind of laughter that only comes with family holidays. And yes, there may have been a glass or two of delicious Spanish wine involved… okay, maybe three. There’s something magical about sipping wine under the stars with your loved ones after a day of adventures.
